MAESTRO VIOLIN INSTRUCTIONS

BRIDGE PLACEMENT

When you receive your Maestro violin, the first thing you will most likely notice is that the bridge has been removed. This is done to make sure your violin and bridge arrive in tact, without damage. To re-install your bridge, look for the lower side of the bridge and place it towards the treble or thinner strings. The taller side of the bridge goes towards the bass or thicker strings. Carefully place the strings on top of the bridge and raise the bridge to a standing position. (Each string will fit into a notch, on top of the bridge.)

Once you have the bridge standing correctly, it should now be positioned directly between the small notches located on each F-Hole.

TUNING YOUR VIOLIN

After making sure that your bridge is placed correctly, you are ready to tune your violin. To do so you will need an Electronic Tuner, a Pitch Pipe or a piano. Using the wood tuning pegs, tune each string as close as possible to the correct pitch. (Note: If you have problems with the pegs slipping, apply a little rosin dust to each peg where it inserts into the peghead.) After tuning as close as possible with the wooden pegs, go back over each string and use the fine tuners for precise tuning.

SOME TIPS ABOUT YOUR BOW

Before playing, the hair on your bow should be adjusted to have a slight bounce to it without touching the stick after placing it on the strings.

Use the screw at the base of the bow to tighten the hair but be careful not to over-tighten or you could damage your bow.

When you first attempt to apply rosin to your new bow, you'll have to go through a priming process. Make sure that the rosin that came with your violin has some powder on the surface. (Note: A new cake will be too slick to apply to the hair. To correct this, take a small pocketknife and crosshatch the rosin so there is texture to the cake.) After this, slowly draw the hair over the rosin cake from the frog to the tip of the bow. Do this 7 to 8 times to ensure that rosin has been applied.

When you are finished playing, be sure to loosen the screw on your bow to avoid unnecessary tension when not in use.
