CHANGING STRINGS ON YOUR ACOUSTIC GUITAR

The following instructions concern general, basic string changes for acoustic guitars. If you are not sure of what is being described here or are not sure of your capability to carry out the instructions, do yourself a favor and take your axe to a qualified guitar technician.

Also, please be aware that to do the job correctly, you will need the proper tools. It is highly recommended that you obtain a String Winder and Wire Cutters such as those available in the MusicYo GUITAR PLAYER SURVIVAL KIT before proceeding.

STEP ONE: Loosen the string with your String Winder (Image #1) until it can be removed from the tuning peg. (Note: It is recommended that you change strings one at a time and not remove all of them at once.)

STEP TWO: Remove the Bridge Pin (Image #2) and gently pull the string out of the guitar.

STEP THREE: Take the new string out of it's package and insert the ball end into the guitar. (Image #3) Place the Bridge Pin back in the bridge and push firmly into place. (Image #4)

STEP FOUR: Thread the non ball end of the string through the tuning peg. (Image #5) Pull the string tight, then back off approximately one inch (to give room for winding around the tuning peg) and bend the string 90 degrees or straight up. (Image #6)

STEP FIVE: Keeping pressure on the string at the tuning peg, use your string winder to tighten the string. (Image #7)

STEP SIX: Use wire cutters to cut off the excess string. (Image #8)

Make sure you have at least two full windings on the string peg. Windings should be nice and neat without overlapping. (Image #9)
