Your Jam Trem has been set to seat parallel with the top of the guitar body when in the locked position. When the tremelo is in the unlocked position and sitting idle, the bridge plate must not fluctuate upward or downward or it will effect your guitar's tuning. If this happens and your bridge plate moves upward you need to increase spring tension. This can easily be achieved by turning your spring tension knob (Figure 1) clockwise bridgeplate is again parallel with the body. Turn the spring tension knob counter clockwise if the bridge plate moves downward.
When the tremolo is not in use, the tremolo arm rotates downward creating a locked position. (Figure 1) This prevents the tremolo from moving up or down. Thus turning your tremelo into a fixed bridge.
To unlock your tremolo into a floating state, simply rotate the tremelo arm to the playing position. (Figure 2)
If you wish to change the position of the tremelo arm when it is in it's unused lock position, you will need to remove the bottom set screw (Figure 4) using a 5/64 allen wrench, then hold the jam cam (Figure 3) in the locked position with the jam plate. Make sure the tremelo arm is threaded all the way in the tremelo. Next loosen the top set screw (Figure 4) and rotate the tremelo arm to the desired locked position. Next tighten the top set screw and place the bottom set screw back into place and tighten.
If you run out of play on the spring tension knob you will need to adjust the spring claw (Figure 3) to compensate for this problem. First put the bridge in locked position and tune to desired pitch. Then readjust spring tension knob so you have adjustment range in both directions. Now unlock the bridge and adjust the spring claw in the direction that will put your bridge parallel with top of the guitar body.
